The Duke University student chapter of the American Fisheries Society

About Us

The mission of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) is to improve the conservation and sustainability of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems by advancing fisheries and aquatic science and promoting the development of fisheries professionals. AFS is the world's oldest and largest organization dedicated to strengthening the fisheries profession, advancing fisheries science, and conserving fisheries resources.

In March 2007, DukeFish, the Duke University student chapter of AFS was established. DukeFish is part of the AFS Tidewater Chapter along with East Carolina University and UNC?Wilmington. Our mission is to promote sustainable fishing and consumer practices by reaching out to our peers, community members, and local industry. We strive to achieve this through education, outreach, and community participation.
